________
Above are links to selected articles about recent conversions from proprietary software (i.e., commercial software) to Linux and other free software. They illustrate the great diversity in the companies, government agencies and other organizations that are making the switch. In some cases they also provide insights into the hurdles that have to be overcome in what can be a complicated process and into the benefits attained.
It should be kept in mind that these articles represent only a small fraction of the organizations converting to free software, as many do no make public announcements of such changes.
For the reasons that this accelerating shift to free software is taking place, see 25 Reasons to Convert to Linux, The Linux Information Project, January 2006.
